We strongly encourage everyone, from providers to business owners and patients, to stay up-to-date on the latest information from the CDC regarding prevention and social gatherings. You should also check your state or county’s public health website for updates on rules and restrictions in your area, as some areas have already implemented shelter-in-place orders. Experts urge individuals to minimize exposure by washing hands often, regularly cleaning surfaces, avoiding frequent contact with eyes and mouth and avoiding all social gatherings over 10 people.
You can also track the location of confirmed and active cases within the United States using the Johns Hopkins Interactive tracking map. However, due to a shortage of testing supplies, even the most reliable sources of information may not accurately portray the full scope of the virus.
What Is It?
According to the World Health Organization, COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. While those who are older or have underlying medical conditions- such as respiratory disease or diabetes- are more likely to develop serious side effects, most are able to recover without special treatment.

Testing
While the CDC provides guidance on who should be tested, the decision is usually made at the discretion of healthcare providers and local agencies. Due to a testing shortage and the fact that not everyone needs to be tested, the CDC website emphasizes that:
- Most people have mild illness and are able to recover at home.
- There is no treatment specifically approved for this virus.
- Testing results may be helpful to inform decision-making about who you come in contact with.
How does the virus spread?
Like many other viruses, COVID-19 seems to spread from person to person. Close proximity to others (within 6 feet) and respiratory droplets from coughing, and sneezing are the main ways others can become infected.
Is there a cure?
While there are many clinical trials being conducted, there are no vaccines or treatments to cure COVID-19 at this time.
Keeping Employees Safe
As of Monday, March 9, OnPatient team has instituted a work-from-home policy and closed all physical office locations for the month of March. This is meant to ensure the safety of our employees while continuing to perform at 100% operational capacity. We will closely monitor CDC updates in the event the office closures should continue into April. However, we have committed to providing all employees with the necessary tools and support to perform their work from home without any disruption.
